Vibrant Connection project was based on ‘Repetition’.Vibrant Connection project was based on ‘Repetition’ which was a really interesting idea. From my primary research, I had an interest in repeated and gothic patterns of tiles and walls in Spain. One of them has round in the centre and diagonal and curve around the main round grabbed my attention. I found the patterns could be separated by I managed to develop my ideas and designs for this final piece of my jewellery.
From the second term, I learnt about essential batch production techniques such as lathe, vacuum forming, spinning, laser cutting, wax carving, sublimation, and riveting, materials and processes to enable the design and manufacture of a range of products.
By using the lathe which is very useful and handy to design, I was able to create the unique spoon handle. On top of that, it was the first time to try wax carving. I was really enjoying when I engraved my design, sorted some problems out, and used different types of wax to decorate on my wax design.
My favourite piece of jewellery is ‘Shadow Ring’ that was my first design since I started focusing on my major at School of Jewellery. This project called ‘Something Precious’. I really considered what is my something precious? My dream? Family? And any objects surround me? It could be anything for me.
I explored my something precious deeply and found ‘Shadow’ that might have secret because it seems to hide its own precious/ identity. Shadow makes me observe in depth and different ways which mean that I can imagine unique shapes and create my own original jewellery from the shadow. I flashed a light in shadow in several perspectives and found patterns. I used one of them from my experiment as the main part and made the big piece of shadow ring because I wanted to express how I imagined with the shadow and looked any objects in different ways. So, when you look at something through the ‘Shadow Ring’ you will see parts of the object in different ways or you might see an interesting part of the object that you have not expected.
When I just entered university I learnt basic skills such as piercing, scoring, hammering, using cutting machines, and soldering in different ways and methods. Later, I created my own container to show my skills what I have learnt and improved. Moreover, I added the initial of my first name ‘T’ with using scoring and soldering on the top of the joy.
In terms of my previous post about the deadline and lively cactus, I designed and made a piece of my jewellery design for celebrating 175 years of publication for Horticulture Week Magazine.
Basically I didn’t mention any celebrations on my ring because I believe that Horticulture Week will continue infinitely.
At first, I designed the main ring with wax. It was two parts and joined together with the other wax which we can melt it and apply to stick two pieces of the wax. To create patterns I used the lathe which is a big machinein the basement. It is easy to use. But, I have to be careful and regulate length of the metal.
It is my final design.
